Journal
Below are some generous & beautiful words written by kind souls about my journey & experiences through interviews, sharings, chats over tea (or whisky)… read on to dive deeper into some parts of my story.
Mischa’s own daily practice is a morning ritual, moving & meditating before heading out into the world. She loves offering students a deep breath & a few moments of joy - a chance to meet themselves.
For her, yoga is much more than the physical asana practice on the mat, it is a living breathing prayer.

In response to the current situation, we’ve been working on a few special projects to transform the device you’re holding into a portal of radical joy. With help from some of our expert collaborators, we’ll be bringing you delicious diversions, long-form enrichment, specialised tuition, secret handshakes, and other intriguing pick-me-ups and self-improvements over the course of the coming weeks.
If you’re fortunate enough to take a yoga class with Misch Gomez, it’s hard to imagine a time when she wasn’t glowing with radiance. Misch masterfully walks the line of strength and vulnerability, holding space with confidence, but also leading with a sensitivity that makes you feel like you’re the only other person in the room. You can tell when she hits the mat, there’s a sense of joy, relief, and of coming home. When you take one of her classes, those feelings are transmuted to her students too.
But before Misch found yoga – or yoga found her – she battled severe anxiety and PTSD. “I don't know if I would be here to be honest without something changing. I couldn't keep going the way it was,” she says. “For me it was very physical. I'd have severe panic attacks where I had to be in the foetal position in order to recover. I still have a scar on my inner thigh where I would scratch myself from anxiety-induced itchiness. I used to throw up constantly to the point where I've now got damaged teeth and stomach ulcers. I would literally be sick because I was so anxious.”
This week our Yoga By Donation class will be taught by new recruit and one Sydney’s most in-demand yoga teachers, Mischa Gomez. Misch is a full time teacher at Redfern’s Humming Puppy, and also teaches at Paramount Recreation Club in Surry Hills, Barefoot Yoga in Paddington and corporate offices around Sydney. She talks us through the journey from yoga newbie in daggy clothes to full time yoga teacher, how she used yoga to deal with her severe anxiety and panic disorder diagnosis, and how yoga can help you wash the dishes and reply to emails.

Mischa first discovered yoga when she moved to Sydney ten years ago in the search for connection. Since then, yoga has allowed Mischa to find true embodiment. We chat about her entry to yoga, the benefits of a regular practice and how we can create more flow and ease in our lives.
